As we embark on a new year we all set goals and benchmarks as to what we want to accomplish in the next year of our lives. For the last two months I have been seeking God to see what 2016 will look like and what He is wanting to accomplish in my life but also in the churches life as a whole.
When I started to seek I began to hear about the unrest in the world and see the injustice that is taking place. Knowing that God is in control and also knowing that he is all powerful I began to seek more of that power. For me it is not that I don't have the power of God on my side because of the beliefs that I have in my life but I don't want to miss out on the power of God that is right in front of me. We can go through this life knowing about the power of God but not tapping into the power of God. 2016 will be a quest for me and Open Door Assembly to seek after and see the power of God do some incredible things I believe.
So on that journey God started to impress me to do a series called OMG! for most of us we see this as a term of slang or a negative saying towards our powerful God. As I was describing the series to my wife Zana she gave me this title. God was speaking to me about studying and preaching the, Omnipotent power of God, Omnipresence of God, and the Omniscience of God. As you see it is the OMG's of God.
These three attributes were discovered in my early journey as a young boy in JBQ (Junior Bible Quiz). We needed to know what these words meant and why. As I started to study and seek God on these attributes it became known to me that we as Adults need to know these and have maybe lost the truth of who God is through these three attributes. I don't know about you but I think as we grow older as believers we take them for granted. We know that they are who he is but we don't rely on them in our walk with Christ.
The one that I want to highlight is the Omniscience of God. First we need to define it for those that don't know what Omniscience means. Omniscience = All Knowing. With that said God knows more about you than you will ever know. If he is all knowing he knows when you have a bad day and when you have a good day. He knows what your next job will be and what your life will be like in the next year. But for most of us we don't ask God what 2016 looks like to him. We set the goals, we think we have a plan to see our life change in the next year but you don't invite him into your life to see what the ALL KNOWING God would have to say about 2016. What would happen if we took some time to ask the all knowing father what life would look like for 2016? What if we would give up our goals and ambitions for the plans that God has for our 2016? It may look different than we would make it. Our goals wouldn't be selfish minded but they would be kingdom minded and rooted in a plan that God has for each and everyone of us.
In 1 Chronicles 28:9 David gives Solomon his son this command or quest.
“As for you, my son Solomon, know the God of your father, and serve Him with a whole heart and a willing mind; for the Lord searches all hearts, and understands every intent of the thoughts. If you seek Him, He will let you find Him; but if you forsake Him, He will reject you forever.
As I read this scripture the Omniscience of God came out of it and spoke to me in a new way. It says, "for the Lord searches all hearts, and understands every intent of the thoughts." He searches all hearts! God is not interested in our thoughts but our hearts. If he knows my heart then He knows everything about me. Out of our heart is where we store everything that is important to us. If it is evil or if it is good it is all stored in our heart if it is important to us. So God goes straight to the source of who we are. As I read this it challenged me to do the same with God. If he knows everything about who I am and goes straight to the heart to find out what our intent will be, why don't I do the same? Why don't I when I pray ask to know the heart of God and stop throwing and hurling requests at him? Maybe he is wanting us to know everything about him and know his heart for who we are in him.
This has been on my heart and in my journey this week. To come to a place that is just enamored by the will of God for my life. To be overwhelmed by the heart of God. Because if he knows everything then he will guide me on a path to see him in a greater capacity than I already know him.
I challenge you to take some time and just go after the heart of God. Don't throw requests at him but sit and wait to know what the Omniscient God has to tell you!
